Problem Description

WiFi-compatible safes may fail to connect to new "smart routers" that automatically manage network bands, displaying the error message: "The app was unable to create a communication socket with the safe."

Root Cause

The original WiFi technology in these safes can only operate on 2.4GHz networks. Smart routers that automatically switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands may not provide the dedicated 2.4GHz connection required by the safes.

Solution

Create a Dedicated 2.4GHz Network

  1. Access your router's admin interface
  2. Look for IoT network or guest network settings
  3. Create a new network specifically for IoT devices
  4. Configure the network to use 2.4GHz only
  5. Connect your safes to this dedicated 2.4GHz network

For Netgear Routers

  • Use the IoT network feature
  • Select 2.4GHz only mode for the IoT network
  • Connect your safes to this dedicated IoT network

Important Notes

  • Other 2.4GHz devices may connect automatically to smart routers without requiring this setup
  • WiFi-compatible safes specifically need a dedicated 2.4GHz connection to function properly
  • The same SSID and password can be maintained, but the network must be configured for 2.4GHz only operation
